How Big Should A Yoga Studio Be?

The ideal size of a yoga studio depends on how you plan to use the space. For individual practice, a garden room measuring around 3m x 2m provides enough space for a yoga mat and comfortable movement. If you plan to practise with a partner, teach classes or combine yoga with meditation or fitness equipment, a larger studio, such as 4m x 3m or more, may be a better choice.

At Green Retreats, our garden yoga studios are available in a wide range of sizes, making it easy to find a design that suits both your practice and your garden. Our Sales Team can help you choose the right size based on how you intend to use the space.

Do I Need Planning Permisson For My Home Yoga Studio?

In many cases, a home yoga studio can be built under Permitted Development rights, meaning planning permission is not usually required. This depends on factors such as the size and height of the building, where it is positioned within your garden and whether your property has any planning restrictions.

To check whether planning permission is needed for your project, visit the Planning Portal. If permission is required, Green Retreats has an experienced in house planning team with a 96% planning approval rate, helping make the process as straightforward as possible.

Can I Teach Yoga Classes From My Garden Studio?

Yes, many people use their garden studio to teach yoga classes, whether it’s one to one sessions, small group classes or online lessons. A dedicated garden room provides a peaceful, professional space that’s separate from the main house, creating a welcoming environment for both you and your clients.

If you plan to run a business from your garden studio, there may be additional considerations depending on the number of visitors, parking and how frequently the space will be used. To learn more, explore our Benefits of a Home Business page to discover how a garden room can help you create a professional space, achieve a better work life balance and welcome clients with confidence.
