What Is A Design Consultation?

A design consultation is an important step in planning your ideal garden buildings, which is why this step is mandatory for all orders and completely free of charge.

Design consultations are our opportunity to discuss your project and ideas in detail – considering all aspects of the design of the building itself as well as the plot and location of the building. Some of the details of what we consider during your design consultation are:

Design:
  • Size and height of your building
  • Tailoring the design to suit the use of the building
  • Incorporating your tastes and unique style to your design
  • Positioning of doors and windows to maximise light
  • Colours and style options to compliment your home and garden

Plot
  • Access to the plot
  • The suitability of the ground
  • Ground-level and undulation
  • Existing obstacles
  • Nearby boundaries
  • The fit of your desired building in the available space
  • Explore whether planning permission may be required
  • Advice on known local area restrictions (e.g. AONB, SSSI)

After your design consultation, we will have a clear picture of what preparation is required and how our installation teams will execute the build. If we create a design with you during your consultation, this can be completely changed up until 6 weeks before your installation date. We will have our notes and photographs of the plot to refer back to if you are making big changes, so we can make sure the design stays right for your space.

Once construction begins, our installer team will need to have access to the garden space in order to bring in materials and bring in construction. Not to worry if your access is slightly difficult, there are plenty of solutions to explore! Positioning is the final check during your site survey. This will help decide the best location for your garden office, as well as what is around it and what its best access point will be.

Our site surveys are not particularly long. It is a simple process that allows you to discuss with our surveyors about your building, and ask any questions you may have.

Types of Design Consultation:

Virtual

New in 2020, we now offer a virtual design consultation option which is completely contact-free.
A virtual design consultation is a video call with one of our design team. A virtual design consultation covers all of the design elements of your project and a lot of the plot work too. There’s a lot that can be seen and accessed by video and with photos!

On-Site

An on-site design consultation allows our design team to check your plot and access, as well as giving a proper look at the space so we can help create a building that perfectly suits your needs and garden.
We can carry out the on-site design consultation without contact when paired with a virtual consultation. We can also carry out a socially distanced design consultation at your home (government rules in your area dependant).

What should I expect during an on-site design consultation?

Our design consultant will arrive at a predetermined time.

Parking needs to be nearby for the team to reach you and will have been discussed before the visit to make sure we apply for any necessary permits.

Our team will take measurements and photos of the site, checking levels and access. They will also bring with them some samples of various building elements so that you can see them in person.

What should I expect during a virtual design consultation?

At a virtual design consultation, we may have asked for photography of your site to get us started (if we haven’t already completed an on-site design consultation). We will then discuss your needs and budget as well as how you plan to use the building. Our online 3d configurator is available for us to screen share with you and help design the perfect building.

At what stage of my project should i book a design consultation?

You can book your design consultation at any stage of your project. Whether the idea is fresh in your mind, or you have been planning it for a while – a design consultation is a necessary step to ensure that your ideas and plans come to life. There is no guide to design consultations of when the perfect time for your appointment is – whenever it suits you!

Another great way to start your project, visit our showrooms!
