Is a Garden Office Building Warm Enough to use through Winter?

One of our most frequently asked questions is: will my garden office be warm enough to use comfortably in the winter months? The short and simple answer is yes!

Here’s why…

Year-Round-Use

At Green Retreats and The Garden Office, we carefully design our buildings to be a quality and lasting investment. By using quality matierals and building methods, we make sure that our insulation values are second to none. Every building, as standard, is designed to use comfortably all-year-round! When we think of insulation we tend to only think of the benefits in winter (keep the cold at bay), but insulation is just as important in summer to help control the heat. We have thought of it all, which is why we can proudly say that our buildings are designed for use all-year-round.

U-Values

Firstly, what are U-values? U-values, also known as thermal transmittance, is the rate of transfer of heat through a structure. The lower the U-value, the better your garden room will be insulated. Our garden offices are extremely effective against heat loss with U-values on our doors and windows, walls, roofs and floors not exceeding 1.4.

Double Glazing

As standard we include an opening lozenge window and fully glazed 2.3m French or sliding doors. We also have a range of optional upgrades including large picture windows and bi-fold doors! Every glazed option from our range is fitted with industry leading double-glazing. We pair the double glazing with a planiterm layer and swiss spacer for extra efficiency.

Well Insulated

We construct our garden buildings using a series of structurally insulated panels.

Our roof and floor panels are made from thick high-density insulating foam which is sandwiched between two powder coated steel panels. The roof and floor sections are exceptionally strong as well as highly effective insulators. The floor is raised from the ground using composite pads to create an air gap – again increasing thermal efficiency whilst eliminating the risk of damp.

Our walls use an eco-friendly Rockwool insulation which has been engineered to work alongside a complex multi-layer insulation system. We use breathable membranes in these sections to allow the directional passage of air and moisture out of the building. This membrane is reflective on one side and black on the other, to help keep heat inside the building and reflect away any unwanted elements.

Feel the Heat

As standard, all of our buildings come with a free-standing oil-filled radiator. As well as your standard options, we also offer add-on heating options including wall-mounted radiators, underfloor heating and air conditioning for total temperature control.
